Author of more than 210 original research publications and numerous books and recipient of the Queen Square Prize for research in (1973), the Royer Award for contributions to the advancement of neurology (1991), the Lifetime Achievement Award of the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and the A.B. Baker Award of the American Academy of Neurology for life-time achievements and contributions to medical education in 2007. He is a member of several editorial boards of journals, was editor-in-chief of the medical and scientific journal Muscle & Nerve for 10 years, and is series editor of the monumental Handbook of Clinical Neurology. He is also a director of the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.
